When you toss the coin, you discover the other side of it.
This is exactly what I did some time ago.
Being called authoritative, domineering, bossy, etc, by a few people, I started to explore this.
I believe it is important to listen to criticism and feedback, in order to grow. No matter how painful.
The first months, I was developing a sense of guilt for being me. I observed myself and how indeed, from the outside, and for a certain type of people, I could could across as authoritative. I kept on digging and observing, until it made me a slave to appearance. It made me fight my inner strength, that was so bothersome.
One day, I read something that tossed the coin. And I started to turn around the feedback that was so erosive.
They call me authoritative when I was trying to help them with their own projects.
They called me bossy when I knew exactly what I wanted from my life, not needing their small vision.
They called me domineering when I knew to take lead, when they wouldn’t take responsibility over their part.
You see, I am a thinker, but mostly also a do-er.
If I am helping you, and if you cannot bear to see a small lady like me having worked hard and for many years to attain the knowledge and skills I have today, as well as being generous to share them with you, then you should go back to sleep or buy yourself a Porsche Cayenne to compensate for the size.
😉
If you cannot bear to say thank you for me taking ownership and responsibility -> va dormir ! And go explore your S&M fantasies somewhere else.
And it doesn’t mean that feedback and criticism doesn’t have its’ place, because it does. But it also has a place to reinforce what you are doing. So you don’t have to swallow everything people want you to drink, especially when it’s poisonous.
So instead of calling me authoritative, I take ownership
Instead of calling me bossy, I am a leader
Instead of calling me domineering, I give direction.
